I applied to MARG by sending my CV and an application via email to Mr. Noor Alam who is in charge of all the internship process. The contact details were mentioned on their site.

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

The office was very hard to find in the narrow lanes of Shahpur Jat but when I reached there I realized I was the first one to come. Reporting time was 9:30 and I came at 9:15. I was asked to wait in the well stocked library for Mr. Alam.

When he came we had a nice talk about MARG and why it is necessary to know the law of the land and Mr. Alam came across as a highly intellectual person.

After he explained what my work would be, I was introduced to the rest of the office staff, all of whom were very friendly.

The office infrastructure was quite good with all amenities with a separate area for lunch also a kitchen for coffee breaks.

At the end of the first day I also met with the director who is a pleasant lady and had a small talk with her.

Main tasks

My main tasks included helping the other employees in various projects. We were given tasks on a daily basis and had to give weekly reports to Mr. Alam.

First few days I was mainly given data work but afterwards I was taken on field projects and Focus Group Discussions to different areas of the city.

I also learned to write detailed reports on these discussions and make inferences from my interactions with the subjects.

I was also taken to the main project site, Harshingar. I had to read one book for an hour everyday from the series of books released by MARG concerning basic rights of women and children.

Work environment and people

The work environment was very friendly and everyone was happy to help each other.

The environment was quite causal and yet all the work was done in the allotted time.

I was lucky to have formed good relations with all the employees who were highly experienced and passionate about their work.

Lunch with the other interns enabled me to make new friends and learn about their college and tell them about mine.

Best things

The best thing was the work environment.

Being my first internship, I was quite nervous but everyone at work made me feel at ease.

Also, HKV is nearby so it was great for after office hangouts with the other interns.

Bad things

The power cuts during the month of May and June were a pain.

Also, the work environment at times became a bit monotonous.

Biggest Lessons

MARG educated me about the basic rights of women and children which most people are not aware of and gave me exposure in the field of internships and law.

Accommodation

My family stays in Delhi so I traveled by the metro everyday.

The metro station is at 10 minute walking distance from the office.

Office Timings

Although officially everyone is supposed to report at 9:30, it is okay to come by 10:30 too.

Interns had to work till 5 pm only.
