About the Organization
Niti Manthan is an initiative to motivate and inspire young students on various socio-legal themes and to guide them to traverse the righteous path throughout the endeavour of their personal and professional lives.
Niti Manthan currently functions in the areas of legal blogs, internships, e-classes, Research centres, certificate courses and lecture series.
Duration of Internship
1 month starting from April 27, 2020
Application Procedure
This internship was a virtual one. The application procedure is pretty simple. As redirected from a Lawctopus post to their official website, there was a registration process with a choice of 2 projects amidst the range of projects Niti Manthan Summer School and Internship programme has to offer. Accordingly, the projects were allocated to the student based on her/his choice and the interview scores.
Main Tasks
I was chosen to be a part of the Legal Literacy Project which aimed at simplifying complex legal content into understandable modules
Prepare write-ups and presentations on two Categories- Category A- laws which ought to be known by the common public and Category B- industry-specific laws which professionals in that field ought to acquaint themselves with.
Research on varied legal topics for preparation of modules which was a good mix of socio-welfare legislations and sector-specific laws
Good Things
The emphasis on co-learning and exchange of ideas- This Internship is quite different from the regular legal internships a law student will undertake. All interns used to have regular meetings to discuss on our projects. Weekly meetings with interns from other projects kept all of us informed on the range of projects undertaken by our peers.
The emphasis on feedback and constructive criticism and constant unlearning and re-learning is something that makes one gain fresh perspectives.
The Coordinators of the Projects were very approachable and friendly. They took a personal interest in bringing the whole team together with team-building exercises complemented with ice-breaking sessions, games and discussions on social and legal issues
Bad Things
None.
If you are looking for an enriching research-oriented exposure, your quest stops at Niti Manthan Summer School and Internship
Stipend
No stipend
Lessons learnt
It is important to constantly engage in discussions with your peers and exchange ideas. As a law student, opinions and perspectives are shaped with constant dialogue and deliberations. It was personal learning for me that research-oriented internships widen horizons of learning and aid in personal growth as well.
