First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

On my first day, I was completely mesmerised by the infrastructure with the ornate historical architecture and the lush green surroundings.

I met Mr. Mahboob Ali, HJS, Director, JTRI, Lucknow. He discussed my interests with me and sent me to Mr. PK Singh, HJS, Additional Director (Admin.), JTRI, under whose supervision I was supposed to intern.

For my research work, I was permitted to use the huge library containing all the law books, journals, AIRs etc.

Main tasks

My main task was to research on ‘Legal Protection of Children of Incarcerated Parents’ under the guidance of Mr. PK Singh, HJS. Sir would often guide me and give me valuable suggestions regarding the research.

I also got the opportunity to co-author a research paper with him on the same subject.

Work environment and people

The work environment was decent. The library was well-stocked and my guide was very polite as well as knowledgeable.

He would often make extra efforts to help me with my research.

Best things

I got to interact with several judges.

Also, since the work culture was very relaxed, the work never seemed burdensome.

It was a very good opportunity to truly learn about and explore an area of law under valuable guidance.

Bad things

Since it is a governmental organisation, work was very slow.

Biggest Lessons

I got to learn a lot about the legal provisions in our country as well as several other countries of the world regarding children of incarcerated parents.

I also studied the Juvenile Justice Act in great detail and made several recommendations for the social and legal welfare of such vulnerable children.

Accommodation

Since I have my ancestral home in Lucknow, accommodation was not an issue for me.

However, there are a lot of PGs in Gomti Nagar area in Lucknow.

Office Timings

My office timings were 10.00 AM to 1.00 PM. The timings were relaxed and not very strict.
