Application Process
The application process is quite simple, all you have to do is to send your CV along with a cover letter specifying your period of internship and a recommendation letter from the university/college.
Duration of internship and timings
Short term internship can be done at any time of the year, the long term is generally in the month of June. I interned there in the month of June, 2012.
The timings are regular govt. office timings 10 am to 5 pm.
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
The office when I interned was on Copernicus marg near India gate, the office was a built into an old courtyard style building so there was enough room for air but the insides were a bit crowded. The instructor Mr. Rawat was humble and caring man who briefed the interns well and allotted them departments and assigned them work.
First day formalities are none but one i.e. to get your ID card made for rest of the month.
Now the office has been shifted so the infrastructure would be better than before.
Main tasks
Your tasks depended upon which department one is into, if your are in ‘madad cell’ you’ll pick up calls and take down complaints and guide the complainant.
The legal department has tabulation and research work while the investigation division will educate you with various techniques they follow to crack cases.
Work environment and people
Work environment is friendly, people are helpful and friendly. The work environment is good, you’ll have place to sit and work. Mr. Rawat treated us with cold drinks and snacks everyday.
Best things
Best thing was the investigation cell where we learnt how NHRC’s team works efficiently. The madad cell actually gives you a chance to serve people and guide them – an amazing felling believe me !!
Bad things
If you are introvert and hesitate to approach people for guidance and work, no one will be bothered to waste their time over you. Kinda fair right?
Stipend
None for short term, long term as specified by them in their notifications.
Biggest Lessons
That there is a need for such an organisation because there are big, super big loop holes in our public administration system.
