Name of Organisation, Location, Team Strength
Multiple Action Research Group (MARG), New Delhi
Application Process
I got the internship through the college placement cell.
Duration of internship and timings
4 weeks, December 2012 – January 2013
Five days a week: 10 am – 5 pm
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
The NGO is situated in Shahpur Jat, New Delhi. The office has a library and a separate section for the employees and the interns. There is a pantry on the upper floor.
On the first day, I was given an orientation by my supervisor about the work that the NGO undertakes. I was asked to fill in my details in an attendance register that was kept for interns and as well as submit the write-up for the internship.
Main tasks
During the internship, the work was mainly research related. Every two or three days days, we would be given a topic by the supervisor and had to prepare presentations on the same.
The presentations were to be mailed to Sir immediately after finished.
My co-intern and I also drafted RTI applications for the NGO.
Work environment and people
The work environment was pretty relaxed. Nobody scolded if you turned up late or if you left early from the office.
However, one had to inform in advance for a leave. All the employees were friendly and you could talk to anyone, without any hesitation.
Best things
The best thing about the internship definitely includes the protest-cum-discussion in light of the Delhi Gang Rape Case that the interns were taken to, at Dilli Haat.
It was a great experience as one got to know the varied opinions of the public about the incident. The amazing chai and biscuits in the winters were an added bonus in the office.
Bad things
There was nothing bad but I wish there were more field visits for the interns.
Stipend
None
Biggest Lessons
It really helped to get to know the working of a NGO and how they take up matters that the government authorities neglect to.
