First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
It was my first internship in my life so I was a bit nervous and at the same time very excited. We were 4 people from the college interning together under a professor in ILI so we directly went to his cabin.
We were made to fill our entries in their intern register and then we were given access to their library and the resource centre. Non ILI students are not allowed in their library unless you know someone there.
On our first day we were taught the basics about how to do legal research and how a paper is written with all the formatting. Later on we were given some cases to research for and then prepare a brief on them.
Main tasks
It was purely a research based internship. Various cases were given to us research upon. the main tasks involved legal research work and data management, case analysis on various cases of the Supreme Court of India and report of Supreme Court judgments relating to interpretation.
We even prepared a compendium of various cases of the Supreme Court relating to interpretation and researched on the very famous Yakub Memon case. We had a small discussion about how to file a RTI also.
We even attended a conference by NALSA at ILI were various judges of the Supreme Court and HIGH Court with the officials of NALSA were there.
Work environment and people
The staff of the ILI is very co-operative specially the mam sitting in the resource centre room. From the director to a professor or any staff, everyone was ready to help out the interns.
Many advocates from the Supreme Court visited ILI and the official office given to the senior advocate Mrs. Pinky Anand by the government is also there in the ILI. Though the working environment is same as you can expect from any governmental institution but it was still very satisfactory.
Best things
There are a lot of good things about ILI such as:
1. The very famous library. It’s like a heaven for a law student. It is very well equipped and updated. You can find books and journals on any legal topic in their library.
2. It is in front of the Supreme Court of India. So you get to see a lot of famous senior advocates. It might help you to get internship in future.
3. Canteen. The food in their canteen is very cheap and delicious. THE very famous food item of their canteen is paneer masala dosa and dahi bhalla.
Bad things
There are two bad things that I feel about ILI:
1. They should have a better reception and reception area. They have only guards sitting at the reception.
2. The library should be made accessible to the students of other government institutes also.

Biggest Lessons
To achieve something big you have to start from the root.
Hard work is the key mantra to success and research work is very important in the legal field. How do you present a paper or what image do you give to a reader when he or she prima facie reads it is very necessarry. Thus, formatting of any document is very important.

Accommodation
I put up at Delhi, so accommodation was not an issue for me. It is in front of the Supreme Court so one can find PG’S in Noida or south Delhi.
Office Timings
Timings of the internship were very strict that is from 10:00 A.M till 5:00 P.M. Some other interns at that time were also scolded and given warning for coming late in the internship. Lunch was from 1:00 P.M to 2:00 P.M.
