Duration of internship and timings
1st January, 2015 – 15th January, 2015
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
As it was my first internship, I was bit nervous and excited too. And guess what I got late on the very first day searching for the chamber out there.
On reaching the chamber, my mentor asked me to follow him to the court and meanwhile he asked me about some laws and I was unaware of those laws so I simply replied that it was my 2nd year and I haven’t yet studied major laws, so he just smiled and after we came back to chamber he then advised me to read the files of the cases and write down the sections of the laws under which the cases were being filed.
Then from other people I got to know that my mentor is the head of the firm and it felt great and surprising too that being the head of the firm he was very humble and nice.
Talking about the chamber, it was quite far from the court and was two storied, quite clean and systematically filled with bundle of files. interns were allowed to go upstairs and read the files.
Lunch was the only relax time and just for half an hour in which we interns used to interact with each other and with other counselors. The last day I was given the certificate of internship and which felt like yes I did something and everything requires hard work.
Main tasks
Main tasks were:
• Reading Files
• Witness court proceedings
NOTE- The work assigned was based on individuals knowledge and the current year of their course.
Work environment and people
All the Counselors out there remain busy the whole day and they just have lunch time to relax. Interns have the same schedule as they have to keep pace with the counselors and follow them to different courts.
Everyone out there is really cooperative and are ready to help the interns regarding any of the doubt.
Best Things
People are cooperative and interactive, so it does not let one feel to be new. In fact within a day or two I got used to, with the firm’s environment and rest all turned easy.
One more thing which made my certificate more valuable was that the head of the firm was Joint Secretary of Delhi Bar Association.
Bad things
I didn’t felt anything bad about the firm except one thing that the chamber was quite far from the court.
Stipend
No stipend
Biggest Lessons
A lawyer must be patient and polite and above all he should be really good at public dealing and client counselling.
Any Other Thing
General advice: If you wanna become a great lawyer always carry a humble attitude.
