Application Process
Dr. Jayashree Gupta is the President of Consumers India and she looks after the entire internship process. Students are required to mail their CV to jayashreehrg@gmail.com
They have fixed internship batches and details can be found on this or blog or through their Facebook page.
Duration of internship and timings
I have interned there twice, first from October 20th, 2014 to November 30th, 2014 and again from December 20th, 2014 to January 31st, 2015. Internships usually lasts for 6 weeks.
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
Once the internship got confirmed, we are asked to report at the office of Consumers India, which happens to be the residence of Dr. Gupta, for orientation. After a brief introductory session and filling of internships forms, interns were provided with a list of research topics.
The interns were asked to choose a topic of his interest and the groups were formed. Each group had 3-4 members and a mentor was allotted to them. This one was a research based internship and all the teams were supposed to submit a detailed report of the findings of the research at the end of the internship tenure.
Main tasks
The topics allotted are directly related with day to day Consumer issues. While I was interning my research topics were:
1. Are Consumer Courts Consumer friendly?
2. “A study of Hemophilia, Disabilities and Disabilities Act.
We made a comprehensive 25-30 pages report on each of the topics based on surveys we had conducted. For the first topic we went to various Consumer Foras and spoke to people and authorities regarding the difficulties people face in these courts.
For disabilities Act research, our team went to Maulana Azad Medical College and studied the flaws in the implementation of rights for disabled persons.
Work environment and people
There were about 6-8 full time members in that organisation comprising of retired Bureaucrats, Lawyers, Doctors, Professors etc.
The mentors were highly learned people and they made sure that the research went in a proper direction as desired by the organisation. It was lovely and enriching experience working with them.
Best things
The best thing is that this internship is not restricted to law students only. Students from various educational backgrounds come together to form the team which makes this entire drill a very pleasant experience.
Bad things
Nothing as such
Stipend
None
