Duration of internship and timings
December 25th, 2012-January 30th , 2013
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
Since this was my very first internship so I was all charged up. I literally acted as some new fresher who will be reporting to some Senior(Boss) on the very first day. All Nervous!
But, the atmosphere was totally different. The President of the NGO was quite friendly and welcoming. And the first work-related question which he asked me was- Would you like to go on some field work (campaigns, interacting with people etc) or are you just good with the desk work?
So my answer was – Just the desk work! Well, the NGO deals with the environmental issues. So, I was not really interested in the field work.
Main tasks
Since, I had been assigned with desk work so my main task were- Research! Research! and Research!
Then, I was assigned with article writing on various topics such as- legislative developments in India for environment protection, Comparison between environmental laws of India and various other countries, mostly writing the synopsis of various environmental related Acts and environment protection.
And yes, one day, they took me to some awareness campaign just to give me a glance of what an actual awareness campaign looks like. It was interesting, at least a day off from mundane research desk work.
Work environment and people
There were a few members in the NGO office, since they used to be busy with their campaigns and other work.
Best things
Everyone was so friendly. There were no bossy people around.
My knowledge relating to environmental law was like nothing, but after all that exposure, I really learnt.
Bad things
Too much research!
Stipend
No Stipend,
Biggest Lessons
The best way to have a nice working atmosphere is to be cordial with all.
