Duration of internship and timings
June to July, 2015
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
I was asked to report at Chambers of Justice Sharma sharp at 0930 hrs and meet with Sir’s Secretary and submit all my details.
Later, Sir’s PSO was kind enough to give me a tour and introduced me to the security staff and the library staff which enabled me to get access without any problems.
Since, I was interning under Jus. Sharma, I had unrestricted access to the library; High Court’s Library is huge and has lots of books on different subject matter.
Main tasks
I along with my co-intern, I would attend Court proceedings and make notes of it.
I would read and research on case files be it Criminal matters and civil. and discussed.
You’re expected to closely observe the day to day court proceedings and make your personal notes and briefs.
Sometimes Sir would personally ask you to research on particular case law and brief him later.
During my internship period Sir delivered quite a few judgments including few landmark judgments.
So, seeing legal history in making made this internship, a memorable one.
Work environment and people
Staff at the chambers was very co-operative, Mr. Awasthi would also personally take out time from his busy schedule to help you out.
Building is located in best and most peaceful part of Shimla, peace and brilliant view was an added advantage.
Best things
Best thing about interning under His Lordship was that everyday you get to meet Sir and discuss legal issues.
Sir always welcomes suggestions provided they are backed with apt research.

Biggest Lessons
Research, research and plain and honest research!
Research and command over the subject give you much required confidence to argue in a court of law.
In order to have a successful run in litigation, nothing but honest hard work is required.
Any Other Thing
I hope you will be making notes when Sir gives you advice on profession.

I stayed at the High Court Guest House, Kaithu, Shimla.
PGs around Mall Road (near to the High Court) are available too.
Office Timings
930 hrs to 1730 hrs.
It was such a wonderful experience each day that i didn’t have to ask for an early leave.
