Internship Experience @ CRY, Kolkata: Great experience for a first year law student!

Application

Email to cryinfo.cal@crymail.org stating that I wanted to do my winter internship 2 months before my internship.

I received a response with an attached form which I filled up and then a phone interview later I was selected.

Duration and Timings

The minimum internship duration is 4 weeks and the timings are from 10am to 4 pm with a lunch break in between, but are very flexible.

I often came in at 12 and left by 3. You can also take leaves by informing your supervisor.

Work Environment and people

The people there are friendly and helpful. It gives a very homely feeling. The location is in a small lane away from the main road.

The interns I worked with were from different law and engineering colleges and we cooperated well among each other.

Different interns get assigned under different supervisors and the work we are give differs.

Main Task

The Bake for CRY sale was held in the month of December. The interns approached various bakeries to donate bake goods and we sold them in the Christmas week in various locations of Kolkata. The money collected went for charity.

Other than that I had a few technical tasks of making a questionnaire to interview slum kids about what they learn in school and an excel sheet interviewing the different supervisors about the work of their interns to make an annual report.

Some interns went for field work to interview the children.

It was a great experience and fun for a first internship before going on to senior years and having to do my future internships at law firms and under lawyers.
