First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
The first task which Protik Da gives his interns is to find his home. I came to know about his residence beforehand when I was interning with Chakraborty & Associates. Protik Da`s Chamber or House is a pseudo library where one can see books and books wherever he or she looks. I was asked to wait in the intern room which is again filled with books with limited seating place for 6 or 7 people.
Protik Da`s enters his chamber sharp at 7 pm after his afternoon power nap. I was called in the chamber and asked to sit on the lap of a fellow intern due to space crunch in his chamber which almost had even the ceiling covered with books.
His PC Monitor is a 75 inch flatscreen Sony Bravia with Internet Download speed of 4 to 6 MBPS. His chamber even has a proper surround sound system where he listens to his current favourite track il Divo Melanconia and sings along..
Main tasks
Our tasks mostly comprised of research work, preparing dates and events, preparing annexures, reading statutes and learning how to Draft Writ petitions and plaints by using Protik Da`s shortcut to Drafting Success.
We used to accompany him to Court sometimes and observe his proceedings so that we could learn the art of speaking infront a Calcutta High Court Judge.
Work environment and people
Protik Da`s chamber experience is an experience of a lifetime which every law intern must have in his law school days. Protik Da`s knowledge of law and things besides law is commendable and probably years of hard work and dedication cannot get anyone even close to what he possesses.
He is a mentor in its true sense and he gives his interns a lot of importance and it would not be wrong to call him the modern day Godfather of the legal fraternity.
