First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

I was called at the Saket Trial Court on my first day. I met with one of his juniors and he had two juniors, both of them brilliant. She made me sit in the courtroom where our case was to be heard.

I saw him argue and was really impressed by the amount of knowledge he had and the way he was probably the only person calm and composed in the courtroom when the case was going on. After court, I went to his office with that junior I had met.

On my first day, he wasn’t there and so I interacted with both the juniors. One of them gave me a case to read and then sat with me and discussed it at length.

The next morning, he called me in his office and talked to me about how the internship was going to be. There were no unnecessary formalities.

As for the infrastructure, his office was in the basement and there was enough space for me to work on my own.

Main tasks

He is a criminal trial court lawyer and so he gave me really interesting cases to read. Not only that, he sat with me every single day of my internship for a minimum of half an hour and explained either the case or the concepts behind it. He explained to me the basic procedure present in the CrPC.

Other than that, I was to sit, observe and take notes of our cases that were to be heard everyday.

Work environment and people

The work environment was perfect to push someone to work harder. This was because of the fact that the two juniors who worked there were absolutely brilliant. The environment they created and the way they worked really inspired me to work hard in that office.

They were really sweet and helpful and till date would be ready to help me out.

Best things

The best thing was that half an hour Shri Sir spent with me every single day! He explained the entire CrPC to me and when I went back to law school, I realised how much that helped!

Bad things

During my time there, he didn’t give me any drafting work. I really wish he had but I was in my second year then and we hadn’t done our CrPC yet, so can’t really blame him for that.

Biggest Lessons

The way he taught me CrPC, I can still remember every single thing. His knowledge and the way he passed it on to me by discussing cases and having conversations about law in general.
