Iswar Saran PG College (University of Allahabad), Prayagraj in association with Faculty Development Centre, PMMMNMTT, MHRD is conducting an Advance level Workshop on Right to Information Act, 2005 on Feb 8.
This capacity building workshop is aimed at providing a platform for the participants to understand and accumulate the provisions and process laid down in the Right to Information Act, 2005.
Objectives
- Describe the purpose and concept of Right to Information.
- Explain the salient features of the Act and possible implications.
- Describe the process of seeking and providing information.
- List of exemptions prescribed.
- Explain the procedure of appeal and penalties imposable by information Commission.
- Describe responsibilities of Public Authorities.
- Describe the duties of public information officers.
- Explain strategy for operationalizing Right to Information.
Outcomes
- Introducing the Right to Information Act, 2005 as a tool for good governance and as a means of achieving history of the RTI movement; changing over last 15 years.
- Overview of the Right to Information Act, 2005 – basic legal provisions; (applicability, who do you file it to, identification of institutions envisaged under the statute etc)
- How to file actual Right to Information application – how to frame good questions – what to attach as fee – how to file up the form – which kind of questions to ask (to avoid “why” questions etc); What to do if the application is rejected – how to file appeal – discuss what to write in two factual scenarios)
- Training the participants on writing a Right to Information application for a few hypothetical problems; Eminent invitees to the workshop are requested to point out common errors and list out important pointers for the participants; and clear doubts.
- Participants sharing of their Right to Information experience.
- Success stories of Right to Information.
