Name
Anushka Dhawan
Organization
Vidhyarthi and Associates, New Delhi
Chamber Number 108, Civil Wing, Tiz Hazari Courts Complex, Delhi
Application Process
Got it through a family friend
Duration
17th December, 2014 – 7th January, 2015
First Day
My first day at the chambers included a formal introduction and small talk with Mr. Vidyarthi, followed by a case summary of the current case at hand. After this, he gave me some research work based on the issue he was currently dealing with.
Back then, he had 2 associates working for him, they showed me around and took me for lunch to the Court Canteen. The chambers were about the normal size of a court chamber, and well equipped with a desktop, fridge and an AC.
The first day of my internship gave me an outlook on how advocates into litigation work their day out, and the way a day at court proceeds.
Main tasks
Research work, preparing legal notices and replying to them, and preparing case briefs.
Environment
Mr. Vidyarthi and his associates were very friendly and co-operative. They taught me everything before giving me intern work. After which, they used to check everything I have done, and politely point out the errors, if any.
Best things
The best thing about this internship has to be my visits to the Supreme Court and the other district courts, along with accompanying the chief lawyers for his client meets.
These little experiences taught me a lot about the law out there, and the practicalities associated with it.
Bad things
The bad thing about this internship has to be the scarcity of good eating places in the proximity.
Stipend
None
Biggest Lessons
Learning how courts work, and how do lawyers woo clients into hiring them.
