Name
Nidhi Chitkara
Organisation
Sunil K Mittal and Associates, New Delhi
Team Strength: 4
Application Process
You can send in your CV to Mr. Anshul Mittal at anshulmittal.b245@gmail.com
Be sure to send it at least 2 months prior to when you wish to intern.
If your application is accepted, you’ll get a mail regarding the same.
Duration
29th June, 2015 – 1st August, 2015.
First Day
The first day consisted of basic introductions and orientation.
Since this office mainly deals with criminal cases, primarily bail cases, it would help if you brush up IPC and CrPC before starting with the internship.
They have a well equipped chamber at the Delhi High Court, block ll, and a spacious office at Defence Colony.
Main tasks
The first part of the day usually consisted of observing the court proceedings of Sir’s matters that were listed that day. It was followed by a discussion with Anshul Sir on the legal and technical points involved in that case.
Other tasks included reading case files of the pending cases, research work. In addition to it, you also get to attend case briefings, conferences and accompany Anshul Sir and/or Sunil Sir to mediations and arbitrations and get to learn about the ADR system closely.
Environment
The associates are all helpful and willing to answer any and every question you may have. They in fact encourage you to analyze every thing critically and come up with as many questions as possible.
Best things
Everybody at this office encourages you to ask any doubts you have, and clarifies it in an elaborate manner.
I also liked the exposure this internship provides to criminal litigation, and its various procedures.
Second Saturdays are relatively relaxed, and the chola bhatura lunch on Saturdays with Sunil sir and all the other associates are usually fun.
Bad things
None, really.
Stipend
None.
Biggest Lessons
Mugging up things two days before the exams does NOT help you in the long run.
Anything else?
Do remember to brush up criminal law before starting with the internship. (It’s okay if you haven’t studied it as a subject yet. You’ll get to learn the relevant aspects during the course of your internship).
