The Planning Commission of India, New Delhi
Application Process
I applied on my own. one can see the internship notice on the website and can post the letter according to the guidelines mentioned.
Duration of internship and timings
1 month (4th June-4th July).
The timings were very flexible from 10 a.m to 5 p.m
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
On the first day, I was asked to report to the administrative office and there one division was allotted to me according to my preference which was asked in the internship application.
I was allotted the Women and Child development (WCD) division.
The very first day I met the Secretary and Director of WCD and was given a project by the Director Ma’am on very first day.
The infrastructure is really good and it gives you a pride feeling the moment you enter the building.
Main tasks at the Planning Commission internship
I was given a research project on Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act.
I had to do all the mapping of cities in the countries like the crime rate and the facilities provided to such cities under the act as well as I had to find out the shortcomings of the act and give recommendations to improve it.
Work environment and people
Work environment during the Planning Commission internship was very calm and easygoing. The director ma’am used to take very active interest in the progress of my report and used to give lots of suggestions to improve further.
If she would not have taken so much interest, I would not have been able to submit so extensive research report.
Best things
Ma’am used to co-ordinate with me mostly on e-mails so I did not have to go there daily in such hot weather.
The WCD Division was always ready to provide me any information which I could not access or find.
Bad things
Nothing.
Stipend
None
Biggest Lessons
The more successful the person is, the more down to earth he/she is.
Mamta Shankar Ma’am, the director of WCD Division was one such example and she helped me a lot in understanding the research process and how a research report should be made effective.
