December 2 to 21, 2012

Timings: 9.30am to 6.30pm (6 day week)

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

It was a medium sized office on Lavelle Road. There were several associated and advocates practising under and with King and Patridge. I had to go talk to the Arvind sir who used to manage interns the very first day.

He took us around the office, introducing us to all the partners, advocates, consultants and associates and telling us who specialized in what.

It was primarily a tax and corporate law practice in high court. They also dealt civil cases in the lower courts. Sir was introducing me to this partner and I was almost mocked at for being from a non-NLU.

I totally understand why people have apprehensions about non-NLU students but wish they give us a chance to prove ourselves before judging us.

Main tasks

Legal Research and Drafting. I had worked on Labour laws, Banking regulations, Tax laws and few Karnataka Municipal laws.

We also had to prepare case notes and submit recent notifications from the Government pertaining to taxes, RBI governance etc.

We could go to the court to observe the proceedings.

Work environment and people

No one talked to you much, except of course the co-interns. You had to pester seniors continuously for getting work. Deadlines were not given all the time.

Best things

Lavelle Road is close to UB City, Church Street and Brigade Road. Affordable places for food and all the window shopping!

Bad things

Not much work. And you had to pester people to get the little work they give you.
