About the Legal Department of the Organization

ZEE Entertainment Enterprises is one of the leading Entertainment Companies in India. Considering the ever growing businesses of the Company, the Legal Department of the Company is dynamic and robust in terms of its practice. The team is led by some highly experienced lawyers, both in the Litigation and Contract Departments.

Duration of the Internship

My internship lasted for a duration of 4 weeks; 5 days a week, 10 am to 7 pm. However, on a few days I had to stay back till 8 or 9 pm, owing to the workload and imminent deadlines.

Accommodation

Since I am from Mumbai, accommodation wasn’t an issue. However, those of you who wish to intern here and don’t reside in Mumbai, can avail PG or Hostel accommodation. a few options have been previously published on Lawctopus, here and here. As regards the travel, there is not much to worry except for the Mumbai traffic and the overcrowded trains. Nevertheless, the city is well connected, thanks to the local trains that run across Mumbai. Since the head office is located at Lower Parel, I used to travel by bus or tax.

First Day and Formalities

On the first day of my internship, I was greeted by the Counsel, Mr. Ashutosh Pandey. After being introduced to the team, I was given my own laptop and was asked by the Counsel to read the Copyright Act, 1957 thoroughly. This was a very important exercise, considering the importance that the legislation holds for legal practitioners in the media industry.

A thorough understanding of the Copyright Act, 1957 is vital for drafting all forms of agreements.

Main Tasks

I was primarily working under the supervision of Ms. Priyanka Chaudhari, who holds immense expertise in the areas of IPR and Broadcasting Laws. Priyanka Ma’am not only ensured that I worked on a plethora of agreements to understand various legal arrangements, but also encouraged me to read a number of drafts in order to understand the structure and flow of the agreements and the application of the legal provisions included in the agreements.

Apart from documentation, I spent a lot of time researching and reading on various aspects and concepts under Intellectual Property Law and Broadcasting Law. The fact that Priyanka Ma’am invested her time in mentoring me despite her hectic schedule was truly commendable.

The best takeaway from the internship was learning to work under pressure and yet, deliver near perfect work. The Legal Department is pretty aggressive and meets deadlines on a daily basis. Working under such strenuous conditions helped me develop my speed of completing assignments in a timely manner and with precision.

Work Environment

The Work Environment was a perfect blend of formality, informality, work and fun. Our team would sit for lunch together every day. Both Ashutosh Sir and Priyanka Ma’am were friendly and supportive throughout.

They ensured that we were entrusted with substantial work and spent out time productively during our internship. Ashutosh sir would even take intermittent feedbacks on the work we were doing and advise us on how to fine tune our drafts.

I also had amazing colleagues (fresh graduates) to work with.
