First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
My first impression was good as I first approached the receptionist. She guided me to the conference room where the interns were supposed to be oriented and made aware of functioning of state human rights commission. We were given topics for drafting a research paper which was to be submitted by the end of internship. Library is well-equipped.
Main tasks
Main task was to draft a research paper. Interns were free to choose the topic of their choice. The research paper was to be submitted in the standard format of research paper and not less than 25 pages.
Work environment and people
The staff helped us complete our topic of research by providing facilities of library, computer, internet. There is no as such work environment because it is not compulsory for the interns to come to the office on a daily basis but as per their requirement. Overall, the staff is very helpful.
Best things
Provided the interns with guest lectures. The lecturers were from Judicial Training and Research Institute, Director General and Chairman of Mahila Samman Prakoshth, Justice U.K. Dhaon.
Bad things
It does not provide the interns with work on a daily basis. Research paper is the only task given to be completed.
Stipend
None.
Biggest Lessons
The internship gave an overall experience. It tested my presentation skills, research skills and provided great practical knowledge and experience.
Through this internship the working of Human Rights Commission was understood and the various ways in which one can file a complaint. A
Alongside, the research for the project, assigned, helped me in understanding the foundation and base of what human rights are and the scope of human rights.
The other wing of Human Rights is the Mahila Aayog, chaired by Mrs. Sutapa Sanyal, Director General. I was fortunate enough to attend her lecture.
The lecture provided the overview of functioning of mahila aayog. The various laws which govern the women section of the society to safeguard them from torture and tormenting situations.
