Duration of internship and timings
December 2014
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
I was asked to report at their head office which is at Lake Gardens at around 10 am. There were other interns from different colleges too.
After a formal introduction we were given the task of preparing presentations on the Juvenile Justice Act and the Child Labour Act.
We were given one week to complete and submit the presentation.
Main tasks
After one week, we were sent to a slum area near Rabindra Sarobar to conduct a survey of the households in the slum.
We found out about their livelihood, the problems that they face in their daily life such as they don’t have proper sanitation facilities, they get water only twice a day for 2 hours.
We had reported these problems to the head office of Hope Foundation. We had also conducted an awareness programme on Child Labour in the slum. We had also made a map of the slum.
Work environment and people
Basically we had to do field work during this internship so there were only two supervisors in charge of all the interns. The supervisors were very helpful and friendly.
Best things
This internship gave me the opportunity of visiting a slum and know about the problems which the people in that slum faces.
I had tried my level best to explain the problems which the people of that slum area face to the head office so that they take necessary steps to help these people.
Bad things
We had very less work to do in the first week of our internship.
The only work which was given to us was to make presentations on the Juvenile Justice Act and the Child Labour Act.
Stipend
No Stipend.
Biggest Lessons
After this internship I really understood what problems these people faces and how they live and it was really disheartening to see the circumstances in which they live.
I am very much thankful to Hope Foundation for giving me this opportunity to help the poor and needy people of the society.
Any Other Thing
None
