Duration of internship and timings
1st June, 2016 to 15th June, 2016
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
On the very first day, we were given an orientation about the working of State Legal Services Authority in Chandigarh and their role in the society.
Also, we were divided in two groups with equal number in each for easy and efficient internship experience.
Main tasks
We were taken to many places where people needed legal aid. Mainly the tasks involved visits and surveys. We were taken to old age homes, juvenile justice home, snehalaya an orphanage, also were we taken to the model jail of chandigarh.
We were also taken to the permanent lok adalats and mediation centre in district court where we were made aware of the proceedings and we got to interact with the judges there.
Apart from the visits we were made to survey the remote and comparatively backward areas of chandigarh like raipur kala, sector 56, mani majra etc.
We were also made to make people in need aware of the provisions of free legal aid services. It was overall an enriching experience.
Work environment and people
People around were all very friendly, knowledgeable, understanding and cooperative.
All the interns were law students from different law schools which helped us gel in with each other.
Best things
We got to know such versatile aspects of legal aid around us. We got to know what all is there in the society for people but people are unaware of it.
Visits were the best part.
Bad things
We were made to conduct too many surveys which proved to be pointless. We should have been made to conduct some sort of awareness programs instead.
Stipend
No stipend
Biggest Lessons
Free legal aid services are provided to people by the state legal services authority in almost every district of every state.
There a lot more services provided by such authorities and government which fail to reach people due to lack of awareness.
We as law students should not only keep ourselves updated about these things but also help spread awareness.
Overall Rating
6
