Application Process
They generally take interns after the 3rd year, but I interned there in my first year.I applied through a contact at new-delhi@singhania.com
Duration of internship and timings
1st May, 2014 – 31st May, 2014
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
I was very nervous on my first day because I had decided to intern in a tier 2 firm and that too in my first year, without any prior experience or required legal knowledge.
On my first day I reached office before time and was asked by the receptionist to wait for the HR manager. After waiting for sometime the HR came and I had to fill up a form with my personal details and preferable field of law in which I would like to work , it was followed by a brief introduction with the associates.
The office was quite nice. A flat had been remodelled to make the office.
Main tasks
I chose the IPR division of the firm. It was an absolutely unexplored area of law for me. The main task for me was to check the status of filed trademark applications and checking the trademark journal for the published trademarks of the clientele.
Later on I was also given drafting work related to the filing of Trademark applications and forming replies to the examination report submitted by the registrar of trademarks.
I also got the opportunity to visit the trademark office at Sector-16 Dwarka.
Work environment and people
The work environment was very chilled out, you could take work or you could pass the internship lounging in the conference cum intern room.
The associates were very eager and willing to help the interns on any matter, work related or otherwise.
Best things
The best thing about this internship was that it was an amazing learning experience for me.
The way the associates treated the interns was really nice. If interested, the interns were made a part of the everyday work and weren’t given made up work.
Bad things
There was no good place nearby for the interns to chill, we had to travel in the sweltering heat to reach the Green Park market, also no stipend even for expenses incurred while travelling for work.
Stipend
None
Biggest Lessons
There is time for work, there is time for play, they shouldn’t be mixed.
