Internship @ Singhania & Co. LLP, Bangalore: IPR Work, Laid Back Environment, No Stipend

The office was large enough to accommodate 20-25 people.

It was however not very well maintained, maybe because it is a branch office.

Duration in weeks. No. of days/week. Timings

3 weeks. The official timings are 10:30 – 6 but the office does not start functioning before 11:30 and interns can leave by 4:30-5 pm.

First impression. First day, formalities etc.

Since it deals with IPR related work, on my first day, I was asked to read into the Trademarks Act, 1999.

There are no formalities as such to be complied with.

Main tasks

Main tasks usually include assisting the associates with the work they are involved in at the moment.

For ex: I was directly involved in the process of registration of a trademark of a client abroad.

Apart from that, I was assigned small tasks like checking the status of a trademark that has been filed for registration and assist in the drafting of a franchise agreement for a restaurant.

Work environment, people

The people are nice and quite friendly.

They do not make you feel out of place and assist you with the tasks assigned to you.

However, there may be days when they are out of office to comply with work formalities.

Best things and Bad things.

The best thing is the location at MG Road.

There are lots of places in and around MG Road to hang out. Plus, the office is very close to the metro station (Trinity metro station).

Also, there are a lot of food options available within the building itself.

The worst thing is that the work environment is extremely laid back.

There were days when I had no work at all and also had to go back because the associates would not be in office.

This was not very encouraging considering I had come all the way from another city to intern.

Accommodation: how, where, how was it?

I had put up at a friends place in Whitefields. However, there are a lot of pg’s available in close by areas like Kormangala, Indira Nagar, HSA Layout and BTM Layout. Pg’s at MG road are usually more expensive.

Also, one could look at pg’s on any of the stations on the metro line since the metro is very close to the office.
