I did my internship in 3rd Year. The internship was 4 weeks long; Mondays to Fridays were working, and we had to come in on Saturday only if we had work or were called in specifically.
Interns are supposed to report officially at 10:30 A.M. and leave at 04:30 P.M. and also take your laptop along with you.
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
On the first day of my internship at Vidhi Associates ‘A Law Firm’, I reported at 10:00 A.M., met one of the staff Ms. Aishwarya Jain, she assigned me work to read a case file and draft a case brief of it, after that Draft a Written Statement for the same, they were very humble and welcoming.
They explained about the work culture and the work which would be given to deal with.
The infrastructure is accommodating and well organised. The office is fully air-conditioned. Have wifi also, you may use it for researching purpose.
Main tasks
The main tasks included diverse subjects to work on drafting, research work, Bail Applications etc. on Civil and Criminal matters.
You may also be asked for your opinion on certain legal issues involved in the drafting of legal documents.
I was asked to draft affidavits, prepare legal notices, updates of MIS, reply to client queries, finding answers to legal issues, find precedents and prepare arguments.
There’s a lot to be learnt from these exercises and you are encouraged to put your own views forward.
This has truly been very enriching for me and I have learnt a lot about the basics of litigation just by the discussions.
During my Vidhi Associates ‘A Law Firm’ internship, I mainly researched on the following topics which are described below:
Researched and prepared notes on
1. Life Insurance Matters:
Drafted written statement, written Argument, appeal petition, reply to appeal, evidence on affidavit, show cause notice for various insurance companies like Birla Sunlife Insurance company ltd., Reliance Life Insurance co. Ltd., AEGON Insurance company, Future Generali, HDFC ERGO life insurance.
2. Banking matters:
Drafted written statement, written arguments
3. Negotiable instrument act, 1881:
Drafted legal notices, petitions and condonation of delay applications under section 138 and 142 of negotiable instrument act.
4. Non banking finance company:
Drafted written arguments in matters pertaining to Tata Motors Finance limited, Sheri finance company limited, drafted petitions u/a 205, 438 & 482 of Cr.P.C
5. Arbitration:
Drafted letters of claim, ex-parte awards and notices
6. Miscellaneous:
Drafted sale deed, drafted seed of partition, deed of contract
Work environment and people
The work environment is truly good and excellent ambiance to work in silence in the Firm.
People at Vidhi Associates ‘A Law Firm’ were very warm and cordial. They have a very good work culture out there.
The lawyers never hesitated in making me understand legal issues/problems when it was difficult for me to comprehend it. Even they take you at the court in their car for seeing court proceedings and mannerisms.
Best things
The best thing about the firm was that there was lot to learn specially if you are in first year and I was treated as an associate and not as an intern.
Besides this, they will give a break at 1:30 P.M. for half an hour which may extend if they starts their gossip, furthermore, the food around the place was quite decent.
There were McDonalds, CCD, Panchi Hotel, KFC, near to the office. So, anyone can go out for lunch and enjoy or taste different foods.
Bad things
The only bad thing is that the firm will accommodate too much interns at a time.
Stipend
No stipend but they will give you treat at last day of your internship
Biggest Lessons
I got the practical aspect of law. It was the wonderful place to learn the basis of Law Firm and Practical Knowledge of Law is more important than learning Laws.
Accommodation
Since I am from Patna so accommodation was not a problem but there are many PG’s available in Boring Road, and OYO rooms in Exhibition Road, Gandhi maidan road, and near to Fraser Road at affordable price.
Office Timings
10:30 A.M. to 04:30 P.M. Well they are very strict to the timing, and if you are willing to absent or absent of some other reason next day, then kindly call them or send them an official mail prior to the office time.
