First impression, First day formalities, Infrastructure
It was my first law firm internship. I was introduced to the partner Mr. Pranit Nanavati on my first day.
He asked me about my interest areas in general and thereafter assigned me to the IP team.
Main Tasks
On my first day, the senior associate gave me an orientation of the kind of work that is done by the IP team.
Thereafter, since I had not undertaken any IP course work in my university, she gave me some preliminary reading materials to acquaint myself with the area of law.
My main task involved research work. I also got the opportunity to make preliminary drafts of legal notices of trade mark infringement, letter of opposition, trademark examination replies and an abstract for a prospective patent application.
I was also asked to make a presentation on a current topic in IP on the last day of my internship.
Work environment, People
The associates at Nanavati Associates were very friendly and approachable.
Wile assigning any work, they would try and explain the legal provisions and the relevance of the task assigned to me in the larger context.
Best Things
I learnt a lot about Intellectual Property Law during my internship.
Bad Things
There were many interns and so there was competition on who gets the work!
