Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission, Bhopal (MPHRC) Paryavas Bhawan, Jail road, Bhopal. The State Human Rights Commission was constituted in the state of Madhya Pradesh in September 1995.

Madhya Pradesh was among the first few States to constitute this Commission. It is an expression of the concern for the protection and promotion of human rights. Well furnished and spacious building with, a huge dusty library. During my internship, I interacted with only 6 of the concerned officials.However, there are more.

Application Process

I directly went to the office of MPHRC with application for internship,CV, my college id card and my college bonafide letter..

They immediately registered me as an intern for the next 21 days.

2nd June, 2014 to 23rd June, 2014

First Impression, First Day Formalities, Infrastructure

The first impression is a lasting one and I was overawed by the sheer magnanimity of the Commission.

The formalities were minimal and extended to filling out some forms and introducing oneself.

After that, I met Mr Kanwar who discussed with the human rights act.Moreover, I was asked to enlist a few Human Rights topics on which I would like to perform a group research. I prepared a list of 5 topics and then he chose one out of the ones enlisted and assigned me a topic.

Later that day, I was introduced to other members of my group and we further discussed about our respective topic and how to start the research.

Main tasks

Main tasks included the following:

1. Group project on a human rights issue, in the form of a written project accompanied by oral presentation.

2. Field work,

3. Survey and field visits,

4. Court proceedings,

5. Read judgments ,

Sessions where eminent people deliver lectures on various human rights issues.

Work environment and people

The environment was a warm one and the people were great. It was a wonderful opportunity of meeting people from different colleges which further helps in distribution of work and eventual discussions further helps in widening one’s knowledge base.

Plus, the timings were flexible enough nor they nag you to attend the office daily.

Best things

The people were the best thing about the internship. Moreover, the sessions conducted by several eminent personalities on topics of human rights issues ranging from women to child, police reforms to prison reforms were enlightening and thought provoking.

Bad things

There was nothing really bad about the internship for first year students.

Stipend

No Stipend.

Biggest Lessons

No one will judge you upon your percentile but quality in your work.
