Duration of Internship and Timings
I interned at the HRLN for a period of One Month (June 2013).
The timings were 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM (with a short break for lunch).
First Impression, First Day Formalities, Infrastructure
The infrastructure at HRLN isn’t spectacular.
However, once Mr.K.K Roy introduced me to his team and briefed me about the responsibilities and task which I was expected to undertake.
Main Tasks
The primary task allotted to my team was that of preparing various Public Interest Litigations (PIL) on a different social issues.
This involved multiple field visits to various Government Offices such the Uttar Pradesh Police Headquarters, the Food Corporation of India and constituent offices of the Anganwadi Schemes.
These visits were followed by a report on their working and and pointing out discrepancies in the manner of functioning and that prescribed by the concerned authority.
Ulitmately a PIL was filed on the basis of these reports which was argued by us in the Allahabad High Court.
Work Environment and People
The work environment at the HRLN was splendid which can largely be attributed to the fact that interns were rewarded and encouraged for all the work done by them; Mr. Roy and his colleagues were very approachable and not at all intimidating.
Best Things
The opportunity to plead at the High Court was perhaps the best thing to happen to me.

Biggest Lessons
Whilst I was rather skeptical about the work actually done by NGOs this experience changed that perception and got me to realise that NGOs such as the HRLN play a pivotal role in holding the bureaucracy accountable for their lapses.
