Duration of internship and timings

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

On my first day, I was asked to report to Rajasthan High Court at 8 am. Firstly, I met PA to Hon’ble Justice who asked my name and college. He said to me in case if have any problem then I should contact him. He gave me some general instructions which were to be kept in mind during the course of internship such as to come in formal dresses and punctual.

Main tasks

The main tasks included researching on matters pertaining to Company Law, Service Laws, Criminal Procedure Code etc. During my internship, the roster was such that majority of the cases that came up in the court were relating to service laws and company laws.

Moreover, the interns were asked to read daily orders and judgments passed by the Hon’ble Justice. Apart from that, the interns had also to assist the Hon’ble Justice in drafting some orders and judgments. Needless to say, the interns had to attend day-to-day proceedings of the court.

Work environment and people

The work environment was very nice. Sir, himself used to interact with the interns on a daily basis. He also used to give advise the interns with the regard to litigation and judiciary as a career option. Further, the PA and other clerks working with him were also very helpful.

Apart from that, I personally liked the manner in which Sir conducted proceedings of the court. Whenever, he asked the questions from lawyers then the questions were very specific and a lawyer’s inability to give satisfactory answers to those questions at times indicated lacunae in some lawyer’s case.

Also, there was another intern with me so there was hardly any time I used to get bored.

Best things

The best part of the internship was that you get to know how a judge proceeds with the case presented before him. Generally, we all used to work for a particular side in some case when working with some lawyer.

Bad things

Sometimes, there was no work to be done but that was very rare.

Biggest Lessons

The biggest lesson is that work hard and have some patience. Apart from that, read a lot as much as you can. A good lawyer must have the habit of reading a lot be it commentaries, judgments, articles, reports etc. even at times if it becomes boring.
