Applying to HelpAge India, Kanpur for internship is quite easy. All you need is to send your CV to the MHU site email id or fix a interview appointment through a call to MHU incharge.

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

Firstly, I met Shalini ma’am (incharge Kanpur MHU). She took note of our recommendation letters and took a short interview. She was the in charge and head of interns and management sector. She made me very comfortable.

We worked in a team of two. This NGO works basically for the elderly people and we were made very comfortable on the first day of our work. She is a smart and talented lady who was fully dedicated to her.

Main tasks

She explained us about the new scheme that was launched by HelpAge India named Advantage Cards schemes. This scheme was to give discount to people of age 50+ so that they can avail certain services at low rates such as discount at medical stores, doctors, grocery shops, opticians, etc. What we had to do was to make associates i.e. places where they can get discounts.

Basically, it was a social work. most of us were residents of Kanpur, so we were allotted places where to go about in Kanpur. Though it was a tiring work but we dint had to go to office everyday but to submit the reports weekly. It was more a field work and was fun. Contributing something for the elderly group gave us great contentment.

Work environment and people

In spite of extreme hot weather at Kanpur, it was a good experience to work in such a reputed NGO of India. Work environment was healthy enough and people were loving and caring.

Best things

1. Not attending office everyday.

2. Field work at the time whenever we wanted.

3. Time to explore the city and no obligations by our heads.

Bad things

No such bad things except the hot weather at the time of field work.
