Duration of Internship and Timings

1st July, 2014 – 1st August (1 month)

Timings: 9:30 am – 8 pm.

At times you were left early upon sir’s discretion, 7 days working.

First Impression, First Day Formalities, Infrastructure

No formalities.

You just have to go and introduce yourself to Mr. Parekh and then you will be allotted work.

The first impression was good. The office was quite big for a residence office.

There is one conference room allotted for interns and another office space with computers that has been set up.

It is located on the second floor of his house in Neeti Bagh.

Main Tasks

The main tasks involved reading case briefs on diverse topics of law.

Then we had to prepare case note, list of dates and submissions.

Additionally research had to be done on case laws in support of the arguments Mr. Parekh were to make.

We also prepared CVs of Supreme Court Judges and speeches in their honour from Mr. Parekh’s side as he is the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association.

Everyday Parekh Sir would give all the interns something to research on and we had to subsequently prepare reports on that and submit it to sir.

Work Environment and People

The work environment was quite relaxed.

For the interns, there was no deadline given to finish the work.

It depended upon you when you completed it and submitted it. Mr Parekh himself was very nice to talk to.

He was always obliging and treated all the interns very nicely. Offered good insight into the world of litigation.

The junior associates were okay. While some of them were friendly and sweet, the others were too moody and downright rude.

There was hardly any interaction with juniors as Parekh sir took it upon himself to interact with the interns.

Best Things

Interacting with PHP everyday.

Going for high profile dinners sir hosted in honour of various judges of the Supreme Court.

All interns were invited for them.

Bad Things

There were around 30 interns stashed in the office and more kept coming everyday so much so that they ultimately ran out of a place for them to sit.

According to my experience as an intern, the quality of work was such that there was little or no application of mind.

They didn’t have enough work for 30 people and there were days when you were just sitting in the office from morning till evening with little work.

There was virtually no feedback too.
