Application Process

The application form for the summer internship programme or winter internship programme is to be filled in and to be sent by speed post/courier/by hand.

An Undertaking Form is also to be filled in and submitted. The form has to be signed and sealed by the HOD.

Duration of internship and timings

One month. From 10 A.M. to 5 P.M.

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

The commission is well functioning and is a flambeau for guarding human rights. It works readily against human rights violation by government servants.

On first day we were provided with id cards and stationery kit. We were also introduced to the dignitaries of the commission including the chairperson K G Balakrishnan J. We were briefed with the working of the commission and it’s role in human rights protection.

The infrastructure is excellent from inside as well as outside.

Main tasks

1. Classroom sessions.

2. Interaction with Hon’ble Chairperson and members of NHRC.

3. Project work on Human Rights issues.

4. State Presentation on Human Rights scenario of the State to which interns belong to.

5. Book review from NHRC library.

6. Films on Human Rights and discussion (issues like child labour, anti trafficking, health and education).

7. Field Visits ( to police station, Jail , NGO, Juvenile home, Old age home)

8. Cultural Programme on the eve of valediction day.

Work environment and people

A cordial work place with library facility and internet connection.

People are highly cooperative.

Best things

1. The interns get opportunity to be a part of the organisation, know its functioning. One also comes across people from different disciplines as the internship included interns from law as well as any of the discipline of social sciences.

2. The students of one month internship programme are provided with various books on different human rights issues at the end of the internship to carry it with them, free of cost.

3. They are also given coupons for tea, snacks and lunch.

4. The library is well equipped with good books.

Bad things

Sessions to be organised which include the discussions on other branch of social sciences and not only legal framework.

Stipend

The selected interns from outside Delhi will be allowed ordinary second-class train fare to New Delhi and back to their place of study through the shortest route.

For interns other than from Delhi NCR will be paid amount of Rs. 8000/-

Students from Delhi and National Capital Region will ne paid Rs. 4000/-

Biggest Lessons

I learnt the Concept of human rights and also many legal prospectives which could be adopted to curb human rights violation.

Team work, cooperation and togetherness also made this internship a bliss.

Any Other Thing

An amount of Rs. 15,000/- will be distributed to the interns who are placed in 1st, 2nd and 3rd position in the order of merit.
