First impression. First day, formalities etc.

Adv. Nalin Bhat Sir, founder @LawBeacons have maintained professional decorum and thus I first had to approach the receptionist tell her my details, she recognized me and politely directed me to wait outside till Sir gave further directions.

I entered my name into their daily work register and by then I had work for the first day allotted by Adv. Vijaya.

Main tasks

It was more of a research internship where I could grasp about property matters, minute details on drafting wills, deeds, studying the reckoner (document containing land values across Pune), evaluating stamp duties, editing deeds, making reports on topics like NGT Tribunals, 10 Landmark Judgments that has transformed India legally, study recent ammendments and present a detailed note on it like The Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 2015, Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.

Also, provisions on day to day activities like legality of cutting of bamboo trees or whether law prohibits clothesline in societies, formation of co-operative societies. Precisely I did:

i) Research

ii) Detailed Note Making

iii) Drafting and editing deeds and other documents

iv) Calculation of Stamp Duties for Sale and Lease

Work environment, people

It was student-friendly. There were two cells, one dealt with Litigation composing of two advocates and other consisted of Adv. Vijaya who dealt with non-litigation and Adv. Nalin Sir monitored him team efficiently. Adv. Vijaya guided me throughout and answered patiently to all my ambiguities.

There were two advocates in the litigation cell were humble, polite and respectful. Everybody was dedicated and this made the environment work friendly. One could directly talk to Nalin Sir through the intercom and he could gladly answer to your queries and help you out irrespective of his busy schedule.

Best things? 

The best thing I had experienced was the advocates were well equipped with legal knowledge but never refused to aide the juniors or interns or have ignored their doubts. There were lesser advocates but efficiency and quality of work was high on scale.

The founder does not focus on quantity he has established quality in terms of staff, advocates and interns. Though the infrastructure is not grand, it occupies every skillful person and a legal craver easily.

There are shifts for interns so that no one is deprived of their right to know the legal fraternity better. There are a mass of law books which was available to me as soon as I asked for me.

They never refuse you for anything you ask.

From books, to guidance, to morning and evening tea! Another interesting part was that they never provide any work for home or any assignment to be done after office hours neither do they scold you if you have got pending works.

That one month of internship at Law Beacons, was at ease for me.

Bad things? 

The only sad part was that they don’t provide computers and internet connection; you have to arrange it on your own.

What did you do to chill? Co-interns, colleagues

Amongst work, chilling time was the Lunch time which was mutually decided every day when hunger called us!! I carried my meal to the firm but apart from it the location is near FC road which is the food street of Pune.

Anything else you’d like to tell

There are good firms but are never talked about because of their less number of advocates or small infrastructure and Law Beacons is probably one of them.

But, according to me it is a place worth interning once, especially if it is your first internship because they have work for every student irrespective of your year of study. They recognize your talent, hard work and discipline.
