Application Process
A mail is to be sent to: rn.jhunjhunwala@khaitanco.com
This will be followed by a call or mail form the hr regarding selection or interview for the same.
Duration of internship and timings
20th October – 14th November, 2014
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
The first day begins with a meeting with the HR, who then assigns you to a team A/B/C depending on whether its litigation, corporate, etc.
This is followed by introduction to the team heads- the associates, who enquire about your year of study, old internships, etc and then assign you work.
The infrastructure is pretty decent.
Anybody who walks into the Calcutta High Court zone, would notice the Emerald House. For me it was dream internship because I always wanted to work in some office in the majestic building.
Khaitan Kolkata is spread over 3 floors with another one being used for celebrations, etc.
Main tasks
Although I was assigned to the Litigation team as that was my area of preference, after a few days of internship I was also assigned tasks by other teams such as the corporate and property.
With respect to the litigation team I required to do drafting. read up on ongoing matters and research with respect to the issues assigned to me and frame arguments and issues. The areas of research were quite diverse ranging from Constitution to Civil, etc.
I also did some due diligence work and prepared list of dates for another team.
Work environment and people
Pretty chilled out yet professional.
You will not be yelled at if you don’t do your work on time, but at the same time if you finish off your work punctually, you are appreciated for the same.
You are expected to handle work from various teams simultaneously and finish it off without excuses.
Best things
The coffee and tea!
You can even be treated by your seniors or enjoy the celebrations every month when they celebrate birthdays of the office staff.
Bad things
There are times when you can feel pressurised when you compare yourself with other interns and their workload. But that should be taken positively.
You may be required to stay back late also if the workload requires you to. I did not mind it but for those looking for a fixed time internship, this may not be a great idea.
Stipend
Depends on the work you do and duration
Biggest Lessons
Learnt time management.
Any Other Thing
This experience helps you grow as a professional.
