Application Process
I had to mail my CV to Ms. Shemanti Sen, an internship coordinator who happened to be an acquaintance to shemsen1@in.ibm.com and she referred me.
I got a letter of acceptance almost immediately.
Duration of internship and timings
I worked there for exactly a month.
Our day started around 9 A.M. The hours were quite flexible.
I could leave by 4 P.M.
In case there was a workload I stayed latest till 8 P.M.
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
At the outset, the whole arrangement looked unappealing and rather boring.
However, it started growing on me gradually and was actually pleasant.
After the brief introduction session with the other employees and interns, I was assigned work right away.
The entire building was dedicated to the NGO.
But our work encompassed only 3 rooms.
The canteen was on the next floor itself and the rest of the building served as a shelter for the unprivileged and resembled somewhat of a daycare unit.
Main tasks
The most frequent task at CINI was the rescue missions.
We got to do field work where we would pick up needy, homeless children and make provisions for their housing, food and clothing.
We were given behind-the-desk tasks too like drafting etc.
Work environment and people
The environment was extremely homely and nothing was too rigid.
They were an extremely nice and cordial folk.
I was lucky to have found a couple of like-minded people.
Best things
Working this close to a cause that I feel strongly about was truly enriching and will remain close to my heart.
I got the chance to learn a few ropes of a paramount law school tradition that is an internship.
Bad things
Being said that, I must point out that the work was more sociological and humanitarian than legal.
But it gave me exposure into the administration of an NGO which in the 1st year of law school was not exactly a mistake of epic proportions, I suppose!

Biggest Lessons
Although NGOs serve as a noble practice, it is not always the place to learn as much as you can learn at firms or under a Senior Advocate.
However, students interested in human rights work and have a strong affinity towards social work, this is the place to be!
