Application Process

I applied for the internship by dropping them a mail. Candidate have to send the CV to ravindra.arwel@crymail.org along with the application form given in the website.

Then, I had a telephonic interview.

Duration of internship and timings

26th May, 2015 – 17th July, 2015

Interns have to work from 9:30 am in the morning till 5:00 pm in the evening for 5 days and in weekends there will be field works where the volunteers will accompany the interns.

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

Child Rights and You is one of the most prominent NGOs in our country that works for child rights. I have often read articles on children’s welfare and related issues with findings of studies or opinions by CRY. Since Mumbai headquartered the organization, I decided to intern at CRY.

My first impression was good. I was introduced by Ravindra sir with other interns, and first day formalities includes filling up the joining form and getting user name for internet connection.

The CRY office is spacious, located in South Mumbai.There are 3 floors including the ground one and there is enough space.

Main tasks

When I joined the office on 19th May, 2014, the office was preparing for the #Ride4ChildRights campaign. It was bustling with activities to publicise Ujjawal Chauhan’s (IIT K student) feat of cycling 2500 km to raise awareness and funds for children.

Researched on some legal topics like, writing short note on Right to Privacy, Child Labour Laws in India, etc.

Visited Govandi slum area in Mumbai, assisted in interviewing children from the deprived communities inhabiting there, also photographed the children. Later I wrote the case studies, highlighting the findings from the interview. It help me to understand the lifestyle of the people living in the slum areas.

I had to maintain the data which I have got in the PAG Areas and to record that in the excel sheets.

Work environment and people

The work environment was good and the employees were having friendly nature with every one in the office. Working under such amazing and friendly Boss was indeed fun for all of us. Their support from first day of the internship program till last day was the same.

Huge degree of flexibility in the working hours.

Best things

CRY gave me direct opportunity to make a difference to change the future of children. It is an important contribution I made to better our society.

I had the privilege of shaping future of children for all this reason; I asked myself, what better job I did? My answer is CRY. 🙂

I got to know more about child rights and laws through different campaigns and events held by CRY.

One can’t get to know the real problem behind the child labour, unless you do the field work.
