How to apply?
I applied for this internship through the internship committee of my college, I had submitted a copy of my CV for the same. Once the candidate is shortlisted, A skype Interview is conducted.
First day formalities, infrastructure, first impression
The first day was exciting. There was an induction and orientation program, where I was introduced to the HR and Legal team. The administration operates out of the same plant complex. the workplace is like any other MNC corporate set-up works like a well-oiled machine.
The Company is into manufacturing of passenger Tyres and the legal part is taken care off by the HR and Legal Department. I was the only intern in the legal department for the season as our college has different winter break patterns.
The HR and Legal Department consists of nine members, The team was headed by Mrs. Jyotsna Aswal (General Manager, HR and Legal). Everyone in the department were warm and approachable. The working environment is professional, in line with the efficient Japanese work culture.
Main Tasks
The main tasks during the course of my internship were checking compliance with various regulation of the Factories Act, Companies Act, Labours & Industrial Laws Act and preparing the checklists and reports for the same.
Since it is a manufacturing unit there were a lot of contracts that were handled by the legal department such as supply agreement of raw material, transport, consultation services, Production. As a part of my internship, I was tasked with drafting addendums to service contracts, drafted Supply Agreements, Legal Notices and replies for the same, Helped in drafting new clause, revised old documents
Helped in preparing for mediation and cases, keeping track of the latest ongoing cases. In addition to that, I used to compile MIS (Management Information System) and worked on Contract management and document processing and management.
Good things
The best part of working with a Japanese MNC was the work culture, Being a Japanese entity the work culture and ethics were of Higher Global Standard, Everyone was well disciplined in compliance to the Japanese work culture. Corporate wear was Formals on weekdays and casuals on weekends, Saturdays were Off. All three meals are served in the plant canteen.
Bad things
I did not find anything bad, Japanese strive for perfection and that is what I experienced during my internship.
Stipend
No stipend
Accommodation, commuting to the office
We get good PGs in Bahadurgarh sector-6 which is 10 mins from the plant. For the daily commute, the company shuttles two buses from sector-6 to the plant.
Anything else, what you did to chill out, lessons learnt
The plant is located in Bahadurgarh, Delhi NCR. There are no places to chill in Bahadurgarh, Metro connectivity is good to Central Delhi.
The overall experience in Yokohama was enriching, I learnt a lot of aspects of law and its compliance over a short period of one month. The internship has been an intellectually stimulating and exciting experience. Given a chance, I would like to intern again in the future.
