How did you apply?
I contacted sir personally. The application process is fairly simple, send your internship application with your CV & cover letter at ashwanidubeyoffice[at]gmail.com.
First day formalities, infrastructure, first impression
So on my first day of the internship, I got to the office by 11 a.m. The most feasible way to get to sir’s office was to get off at the Laxmi Nagar Metro Station and take the bus (Rs. 10) towards Mayur Vihar Phase-III & Silampur and to get off at the Pocket- A, Mayur Vihar Phase-II Market and then enter Pocket-A from Gate no. 2.
The office space is quite admirable and well-furnished. The office space is well-equipped with sufficient computers and WiFi (only for work purposes).
On the first day, Sir called me to his study room and we discussed certain topics and exchanged views on the ongoing Amendments in the Indian Constitution. After a brief session, Sir asked me about my interests and future plans and then he assigned few cases related to NGT, NCDRC, NCLT and SC.
Main tasks
Main tasks mainly included reading the case files, preparing the case briefs, counter-affidavit, reply as well as research work related to the cases assigned me on the first day. The research work was mainly related to the matters of NCDRC, NCLT & NGT.
There were many interesting cases on Industrial disputes where he himself filed against three thermal power plants, matrimonial disputes, Medical negligence, Consumer disputes etc. I also got the opportunity to attend the hearings in the Supreme Court, High Court, Patiala House Court, National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, National Company Law Tribunal, and many other district courts in New Delhi with and got to see him in action.
It was quite an exhilarating experience to observe the distinguished legal luminaries like Mr. Kapil Sibal, Salman Khurshid, Prashant Bhushan, Meenakshi Lekhi, Mukul Rohatgi and many renowned and senior advocates arguing in the court.
I was also assigned the task of proofreading of the plaints and point-out the errors in them if any. I also learned and helped sir in preparation of List of Dates, Cause List, Synopsis, Petitions, Translation and Drafting of matters.
Good things
My overall experience at the Law Office of Mr. Ashwani Kr. Dubey (A.O.R), Supreme Court of India for the month January was a very fruitful one with regards to learning and gaining the practical knowledge of the legal field. It was enjoyable at the same time due to the fantastically designed internship program by Sir which included the research on particular topics and then the court visits on the same which I particularly enjoyed as the prior knowledge of the matters helped me eradicate even the smallest doubt I had on the particular topics.
I found Sir at the Court very helpful and understanding along with being very friendly to all his interns which helped me to gain the confidence to express myself and to clear any doubts I had and even the ones I considered stupid to ask. Sir’s charismatic personality gave inspiration to all of us.
Sir was very different from most of the lawyers as he always represented the honest party and said that money is not everything, you should have some ethics in this field also because if everyone starts running after money, then the Justice system would be a disaster and we as a country clearly cannot afford to have a Judicial system only for its namesake. I can proudly say that Sir is a man of commitments, diligence, sheer will, philanthropy and love for all around him.
Sir made sure to make us aware of even the smallest aspect of the civil disputes and always emphasized the fact that no matter what happens, there should not be a loss of the client even if that means sacrificing your own little joys and comforts.
Sir also allowed me to sit beside him during the client meeting so as to make me understand how to properly deal with the clients in a polite manner and how to gain their confidence by observing him. He also told me that never ever promise anything to a client because expectations always hurt and you never know how the client may interpret it. He emphasized on the point that Advocacy is royal profession and one should always act under their moral obligations.
To end this, I would like say that my internship under Adv. Ashwani Kr. Dubey (A.O.R.) at the Supreme Court of India was a memorable one along with some unique experiences and incidents.
Bad things
No bad things.
Stipend
No stipend.
