INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE
The Internship Cell of our Department every vacations get the students intern at the place of the student’s preference. In my winter vacations just for the sake of time pass I applied for internship. I never expected it to be such a knowledge enhancing experience.
On the very first day (New Year’s day) we were called to have a formal introduction with Mr. Anil Kshetrapal who is a senior Advocate in Punjab and Harayana High Court at his office in Sector 21, Chandigarh. There he told us about the case which would be before the bench the very next day.
So, from the very first day the learning process began. We were given topics for research work.
Our Schedule was like in morning attending court proceedings, after lunch researching in the High Court Library cases related to a given set of facts and finally in the evening giving report of our research.
Sir was basically practicing in civil law particularly in land laws. Even we were stranger to land laws but he very skillfully made us understood the basic concept and the general practices.’
At that time the Government passed the Ordinance relating to Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, which was in controversy regarding its prospective or retrospective application of the ordinance.
The not so good thing about this internship is you work only for a short span of time and the cases you worked upon are to be decided in months, years so on. By the time the verdict comes you loose interest in the case.
The best thing about interning with a practicing lawyer is he gives you personal attention and also you learn the practical aspects of law.
