First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

The Dhir and Dhir Associates’ office is located in Defence Colony. It has got three floors with wonderful paintings on the walls. The managing partner is fond of paintings (they are expensive!).

First day I was given a list of do’s and dont’s in the firm and then directed to the litigation department. Herein I was assigned under a partner of the litigation department.

First impression was good. The infrastructure was good, the office was big and the work was disciplined.

Main tasks

Main task was research! Lot of research work. You can be assigned work by any associate. I also prepared a brief. But mainly it was research. The firms deals mostly in company law matters, sick industries and competition law matters.

I was privileged to work on the telecom dispute(the 3G case) that was heard by TDSAT. So I got to attend the proceedings and it was great to see the senior advocates arguing the matter.

Work environment and people

Work environment is disciplined. People are there to always help you out if you are stuck somewhere. But they maintain a very professional relationship with the interns.

Best things

Best thing at Dhir and Dhir Associates was that there was never a day when I was without work.

No clerical work was given to me. I got to work on big matters and they value your work.

Bad things

There is only work and no play (if you regard this as bad!). Like the associates didn’t interact with the interns much. I just had one co-intern with me (she hardly came to office). So at times there used to be no one to talk to or chill around with if you wanted.

Biggest Lessons

You need to have your basics clear. This makes your research much easier. There is a difference between good research and smart research. In this profession you need to be smart!
