Application Process
It’s a government organization and comes up with the application form every year. We need to fill up those forms.Sometimes, they do ask for a letter from the college administration stating that we are eligible for internships.
Duration of internship and timings
1st June, 2014 – 21st June, 2014
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
First two days was a workshop for us wherein people from NGOs, district court judges used to come and inform us about the existing laws.
This workshop was in some school near pragati maidan. It was around 300 people. So, they divided us into groups of 10-14 students and were asked to visit various places such as Supreme Court, Tis Hizari Court, Tihar Jail, Children Homes, Patiala House Court, High Court of Delhi, etc.
Main tasks
We were supposed to do the following:
– Visit the places they sent us to
– Make observations, develop some understanding
– Submit a report at the end of internship about your observations.
Work environment and people
We got to meet new people every day but yes the officials from DSLSA i.e. Patiala House Court office were really friendly and helpful. I remember, one day, we were lost near Feroz Shah Kotla and had no clue where to go. They guided us all the way to PRAYAS (Juvenile Home).
Best things
A good internship for freshers. It really motivates people, gives good insights of the law.
Bad things
We got our certificates too late, as late as one year.
No coordination among the organization.
Less guidance to interns.
Stipend
None
Biggest Lessons
Never go into jail with coins. They will take it and never return you back.
Meeting with juveniles was a good experience. You get to know the circumstances that led them to these juvenile homes. You get to know how these guys are treated there. Believe me they pretend to give these children high class facilities but there is a clear violation of their human rights there.
