Dr. Pushpendra Singh Bhati, Additional Advocate General, High Court of Rajasthan at Jodhpur.
Application Process
I joined the internship after submitting my CV and meeting Sir in his office.
Duration of Internship and Timings
30th June, 2014 – 30th July, 2014.
First Impression, First Day Formalities, Infrastructure
The office is spacious and there is a separate room for interns to sit and work. The library consists of a wide range of books, digests, manuals and reporters. The entire place is WiFi enabled.
Main Tasks
The main task I undertook was to research on two PILs- one of them being on the adverse effects of chemical pesticides vis-a-vis the use of cancer. A daily task I undertook was to read files lined up for the next day for admission and hearing in the High Court.
I used to read through the files and make briefs which included a careful examination of all the facts as well as the provision of law in question. I was also assigned research on various issues relating to service matters, contempt, criminal & civil matters, right of probational and contractual employees.
Work Environment and People
Everyone was friendly and helpful. Sir was always available for guidance and help. The senior associates were also always ready to help and clear all doubts. The overall environment was pleasing.
Best Things
The best thing about this internship was attending the proceedings at the Court. Freshly out of first year, I was eager about the internship as it gave me an opportunity to visit the High Court and get an insight into its working.
It aided in the clarification of certain basic principles of substantive as well as procedural law. It also gave me an opportunity to read the provisions of various local laws relating to service. Moreover, it also helped me in developing the fundamental skills of legal drafting.
Bad Things
None.
Stipend
None.
Biggest Lessons
This internship being my first work experience in the field of law instilled in me the virtue of efficient time management and the importance of punctuality. 😛
I also attained an insight into the actual process through which justice is administration. Most importantly, I gained practical knowledge about the basics of procedural law even before having read it as a subject in law school.
