Name of the organisation. City. Office Address. How was the office? Team strength.
Academy of Arbitration Avenues-International (AAA), located at 7-D, Calve Chateau, Beside Ega & Behind Nilgris, 808-Poonamallee High Road, Kilpauk, Chennai – 600 010, is a relatively new Arbitration firm which works by the motto, “Blessed are the peacemakers; for they shall be called the Children of God”.
They specialize in dispute resolution with a team of highly trained and qualified legal luminaries. The office consists of 3 assistants and 2 clerks and the Chairman, Dr. Paul Chellakumar.
It also has a visiting panel of lawyers and judges from all over the country. During my period of internship, there was another intern from my college.
I came across this organization through a workshop conducted by AAA on 27th April, 2013.
The workshop increased my interest in the field of arbitration and that’s the main reason I chose this internship.
Duration of internship
May 8th – June 8th, 2013
Application procedure? Internship Contact Details
I sent an email with my curriculum vitae to president@arbiavenuesintl.org. I received a reply within 3-4 working days.
Duration in weeks. Days of work per week. Timings
Six days a week from 10 AM – 5 PM. Alternate Saturdays were holidays.
First impression, first day, formalities
My first day of work pretty good. The staff is friendly and so is the President of the organization.
He took some time out and explained the technicalities of the law and also how the organization works.
Main tasks
The task allotted to me was mainly research oriented. I was asked to research on The Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 and The Arbitration Act, 1940 specifically.
The research also included International Commercial Arbitration. I was even asked to submit a report based on this research at the end of the internship period.
Work environment, people
The work environment was friendly and the President, Dr. Paul Chellakumar was approachable. He took personal interest in explaining the technicalities and procedures to the interns.
The staff is also friendly and approachable which made the period of internship less strenuous.
The best things AND the bad things
The positives of this internship would definitely include the extremely fast internet which made it convenient to research.
Moreover, the interns were given their space to work on the research without watching over.
I personally can’t recollect anything negative except that there’s no parking facility.
Stipend/month
No Stipend
Accommodation etc. What did you to do chill in and around the office and the place of stay?
Since I live in Chennai, I had no worries concerning the accommodation. The office is centrally located with numerous and affordable places close by. The building has a Subway and a Frankie corner which made my internship really nice!
There are many service apartments/PG accommodations close by which would make it easier for students from other cities.
