Duration of internship and timings

I interned their for a period of one month, ie. from 1st July 2013 to 31st July 2013.

The office timings are similar to the court timings, ie.from 10 Am to 5 PM but the timings are flexible as they depend upon the consultations and counselings of any client in the chamber.

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

The office is a chamber in Dwarka District Court, New Delhi and is easily accessible though the metro which lands you right outside the court. I reported at 10 AM in the morning and was asked to submit my resume along with the other documents.

The chamber is well built and air conditioned but is always busy with clients pouring in at all times.

Main tasks

I was basically asked to read different case files to have a better understanding of the law. Being in the second year of my law course, I was basically assigned clerical tasks like arranging various files and entering data in the court diary.

I also accompanied Sir to various hearings and cross examining witnesses at various district courts and the High Court. Also, one blessed day, I got an opportunity to research on rent laws.

Work environment and people

All the associates were friendly and helped me out in having a better view of this litigating profession.

Sir had available answers for all the curious questions I had asked regarding the cases.

Best things

Accompanying Sir to various case hearings and hear him argue was one of the best experiences I had.

Apart from that, the court canteen serves delicious food at cheap rates which may want you to not leave the canteen premises.

Bad things

The work was very clerical at times and monotonous by nature too.

The difference and the methods of arguing in a District court and High Court are way too different and this was the major thing I learnt, how to argue in various courts.
