Simran Bhullar. Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, New Delhi. 3rd year B.A.LLB. (Hons.)
Name of the organisation. City. Office Address. How was the office? Team strength.
Advocate Rakesh Kumar Singh. Delhi High Court and Supreme Court of India.
Address: 3/30, II Floor & Basement, Old Rajinder Nagar, New Delhi-110060.
The office is in the basement with a huge library. It is near Karol Bagh Metro Station. It is spacious with a separate office of the advocate. There is only 1 staff who basically knows everything one needs to know to have a successful career in law!
Duration of internship
July 1, 2013- August 3, 2013
Though they do not keep interns usually, one can send their CV at [email removed on request].
As per the University guidelines, it was a 4 week internship. 6 days a week. I got to learn a lot on Saturdays. Timings 9 a.m- 1 p.m
First impression was very serious and disciplined but not too scary, basically a no-nonsense one.
My first day at the internship was also the day I stepped into a court for the first time. I had to report in the office at 9 and from there we proceeded daily to the respective courts.
We had gone to Tis Hazari District Court on the first day, where I got to see a real court room first time in my life! Nevertheless, I wasn’t disappointed. No formalities as such.
Main tasks
- Attend court hearings.
- Make note of court proceedings.
- Legal research topics were given frequently.
- Search judgments and other related materials to a case.
- Read case briefs and hence make note of it.
Work environment, people
Work environment was absolutely nice. Never felt out of place. Created a whole new interest in litigation. People were helpful and caring.
Best things
1. When we won a case in Supreme Court in which I had contributed a lot.
2. The constant morale-boosts.
3. The delicious food I got to eat almost everyday.
4. The reality.
Bad things
1. Awkward silences while travelling.
Stipend/month
None
To chill in I used to ask every single question/doubt that popped in my brain whenever I got time (related to law of course). Got answers to all of them. 😀 Since I live in Delhi, I had no problems while commuting to and fro the office.
