Duration of internship and timings
11th May to 8th June, 2015
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
He is a very senior advocate in the Trial Court of Kanpur with specialisation in Criminal Law.
Since the very first day I started working under him with the junior advocates and there was formalities as such.
Main tasks
My main tasks were to accompany him to the court rooms, hear the proceedings, carry his files and write down if I had any doubt so that I can clear them later on. Also, to get different dates for hearings of different cases, to write different applications and file them or get the copy of judgements or other papers.
Well it was not just me and the senior advocate but also many of his juniors, so the environment was really loud. He made me meet his juniors who used to assist him in the court room. The juniors assisted me and told me where to buy the court tickets and about Vakalat Nama, Razinama, bail bonds etc.
So many clients, so much of work to be done, all made it a little messy at times. But still if I had a doubt, he used to explain it with a smile whenever he was free else I would ask the juniors and that’s it. Even in the free time or if the senior was busy with clients, I with other juniors used to discuss various sections of some Acts.
Work environment and people
The ambience was very good, I could involve myself, with others, in work.
All the juniors were very helpful and they helped me a lot during the internship.
Best things
When you go to trial court you get to see the real face of judiciary very closely. All that we see in the movies is not real but when you go foe internship it just excites you in such a place and experiencing so many new things.
The best thing about Trial Court advocates and their juniors is that they take interest in you, they’ll sometimes teach you like a professor and talk to you and ask you questions and guide and mentor you.
Bad things
Nothing
Stipend
No
Biggest Lessons
Nothing as such.
