Duration of internship and timings
20th May 2015 to 19th June 2015
Timings- 10 am to 4 pm
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
I was first given a few forms to fill up as a formality for induction as an intern. Hope Foundation has many branches within Kolkata.
Our office was a really good place for working. However, the rooms were slightly small.
The office is neatly done with extremely efficient staffs. They asked me about my career choice and reason for choosing to intern at Hope Foundations. Their cordial nature and friendly approach made me feel at home from the very first day.
Accommodation: how? where? reviews?
I stayed in my cousin’s home but there are many places, mostly hostels and PG, where you can find cheap accommodation.
Main tasks
Hope Foundation has many projects spread across Kolkata. I was working mainly with Nabadisha, which provides formal and informal education to children living in the nearby slum areas. I had the task of interacting with them and teaching them.
It was an enriching experience as this was an exposure to a world of which we are often unaware. I was also responsible for giving consultancy on legal matters like filing of cases via the branch office.
I had also prepared for our campaigns in terms of making charts, preparing speeches, etc.
Work Environment, People
The work environment is energetic, positive and encouraging.
Everyone at the office is friendly and amazing to work with. The people here are very helpful and you can strike a conversation with anyone very easily.
Best Things
The best thing would be the chilled out office environment and the different kind of legal as well as non-legal work.
I came to know of the actual problems faced by the underprivileged and we also learn many laws related to our campaign.
Bad Things
Over all my internship was good. I did not find any thing bad about it.
Stipend
No stipend
Biggest Lessons
It was quite disheartening to see the circumstances in which those kids were living and still putting their best foot forward to make their presence felt.
They are a power house of talents and Hope Foundation is working to uplift their conditions. Yes, there is still “Hope” for the human race.
