Duration of internship and timings
April 2018 – May 2018
Timings mainly depend on your nature of work, office timings are from morning 9:30 to evening 6:00 but there are occasions we worked till 8:30 pm.
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
There is a mandatory rule to be followed every intern shall meet senior attorney Adv. Sanjai Gandhi this to brief about the nature of work, the deadlines to be followed and how the firm works etc. Sir is really interested to assign you to work relating to the area of your interest in IP so in the very first-day meeting open up a few things
- What are you expecting from this internship
- In which area of IP you are most interested which helps you a lot throughout the internship journey, or else you may end up in doing each and every work. once if you inform your area of interest you’ll only be assigned to that particular area.
The first day I was introduced to the other attorneys in the firm Adv. Raja Kumar Sahoo and Adv. Divya Sampath. Adv. Rajakumar Sahoo was in-charge of Interns the first-day formalities was, as usual, signing the filling the HR forms and signing the Non-Disclosure Agreement along with a few passport size photos and a copy of your CV.
Main tasks
The main task is to research on various GI matters, Trademark-related cases and Patents. since I informed sir regarding my interest for Patent and Trademark and I was only assigned with Patent and Trademark.
In the first week you will be assigned with research works. This is to assess your researching skills and in the second week, they will assign you some drafting work, like drafting the reply to the examination report by patent examination reports in which they will assess your drafting skills. depends on that assessment the various duties are assigned.
After my 2 week assessment I was assigned to various patent applications and drafting the applications, reply to the examination reports issued, etc. I was dealing with pure drafting work in this one month.
Mainly 4th year and 5th year students are the real beneficiaries of this internship since your drafting and researching skills will be polished in this one month long internship.
Work environment and people
The work environment and people in the firm are really positive and they are always there to help you out with all your needs. All the associates are very humble and friendly.

Biggest Lessons
The biggest lessons punctuality – you cannot compromise on the time and about the deadlines which are really of serious nature. Everyday target must be successfully completed learnt the art of drafting as well as better research skills.

Accommodation
Since I’m not from Chennai I had to search for better PG’s / Hostels around. The one I stayed in Chennai was located at West Mambalam, Catherine Ladies Hostel. From there it’s a 20 minute travel to office. I used Chennai local train for the daily travel.
