Office of Assistant Government Pleader District Court, Madanapalle, Andhra Pradesh, Mr. A Phani.
Application Process
Went and spoke with Phani sir along with my dad at his office. He asked a few questions about my college and asked me to join the next week.
Duration of internship and timings
I interned from December 1st to 31st, 2011. The internship timings were 9 30 am to 8 pm.
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
This was my first internship. I interned after the completion of my first semester. It was a small office located on the first floor of his residence. There was a junior lawyer practicing under Phani sir. We also had a typist.
On the first day, I reached at 9 am. I had to help sir arrange the case files for the day. Then we left to court.
Main tasks
I had to go the court daily. Observe proceedings and keep note of the proceedings. I observed proceedings at the Additional District Civil and Sessions Courts, Junior Civil Judge Court and the Magistrate’s court.
Being the AGP, sir dealt with lots of government cases regarding claims. Family law, property, inheritance and succession were areas sir specialized in. My work at the office included reading case files, take notes on the laws involved and assist in research.
I was asked to read the Civil Procedure Code and take notes so that I had a better understanding of the procedural aspects of the cases. I also had to draft certain legal documents.
Work environment and people
Work environment was very friendly and I learnt a lot. I got to learn the proceedings at the lowest courts of the country. My senior was very patient and enthusiastic in explaining the proceedings involved in a case.
Best things
This internship was the best platform to learn practical aspects of law right after my first semester. Senior always encouraged me to ask doubts and he was never hesitant to answer. If you want to learn the basic procedures of the trial courts in the country, this is the best place to intern.
Bad things
No bad things.

Biggest Lessons
Asking doubts and queries is a very important thing. Nothing ever comes out of keeping quiet. Because you are going to learn something new every time.
