The Centre for Parliamentary Studies & Law Reforms, National University of Advanced Legal Studies, is conducting a National Workshop on ‘Legal Status of Sexual Minorities’:
The Indian Perspective and Need for Reform’ with the following major objectives:-
Identify the status of sexual minorities in India
Highlight the relevance and applicability of equality and non-discrimination to individuals irrespective of sexual orientation or behaviour
Examine the contemporary international position on sexual minorities and their rights
Analyze Section 377, IPC and its relevance in the present Indian social and legal structure
Whether the classification envisaged in Section 377, IPC is of current relevance
Assess the impacts of the recent Supreme court verdicts on continued criminalization of certain sexual acts in India
Analyze the scope for legitimizing same-sex marriages or civil partnerships in India
Investigate the role of the Parliament of India in clarifying the lacunae in laws relevant to sexual minorities, their rights as well as the scope for legislative intervention and reform.
